Roulette carries its own vocabulary, and a fair slice of it comes from French tables. The terms below are the ones our desk hears about most: how La Partage and En Prison treat a zero, what a straight-up or six-line bet actually covers, and how call bets are announced on a live wheel. Read them once and the rules panel on any table starts making sense.

What is La Partage?

A French roulette rule where half of an even-money bet comes back when the wheel lands on zero. It softens the zero result on red or black, odd or even, high or low.

What does En Prison mean on a roulette table?

Your even-money bet is held for the next spin instead of being taken when zero hits. Win that spin and the stake comes back; lose it and the money goes to the house.

What is a straight-up bet?

One chip on a single number, paying 35 to 1 if that pocket comes in. It is the highest-paying inside bet and the least likely to land.

What are call bets?

Announced wagers on a section of the wheel rather than the layout, such as Voisins du Zero or Tiers du Cylindre. They cover neighbouring numbers and are placed by name at live tables.

What is a six-line bet?

A single wager covering two adjacent rows, six numbers in total, placed on the outer edge of the layout. It pays 5 to 1 when any of those six numbers come in.

What is the spin timer on Auto-Roulette?

A countdown showing how many seconds are left to place chips before the wheel spins. Short timers suit quick sittings; longer ones give you room to build a full layout.
